Woman Dies After Being Pushed Over During Chip Shop Argument

A retired care worker died hours after being pushed to the ground outside a city centre takeaway during an argument.

51-year-old Phyllis Black was found in her apartment at Liberty House, Dublin, on Sunday evening, almost 14 hours after she had returned from hospital where she was treated for head injuries.

Gardai said last night they were investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the incident at the Black and White takeaway at Parnell Street.

Ms Black had been with her sister, Emily, and friends at Brannigans pub on Cathedral Street for a night out on Saturday and then went on to the local chip shop.

Investigating officers said there appeared to have been an exchange of words between two groups outside the premises.

"It looks at this stage as if Ms Black received a push backwards and fell on to the street, banging her head, but we have not yet completed all of our inquiries", one said.

Last night Ms Black's family urged those involved in the assault on her to contact gardai.
