Limerick Family Forced To Leave

The family of a man shot dead last year by gangland criminals left Ireland yesterday to escape the threat from criminals in Limerick city.

Roy Collins was shot dead in his casino in April 2009, four years after members of his family testified against Wayne Dundon.

Mr Collins family had been under 24-hour gardai protection since.

Roy’s father, Steve Collins, had previously vowed to never leave Limerick but saying the trauma of the past three years had become too much, he, along with his wife and two of their children, flew out of Shannon Airport yesterday afternoon.

Former Mayor of Limerick John Gilligan said the Collins family had paid the price for standing up to the gangs, and had made the right decision.
