Fine Gael TD Receive Death Threats Over A+E Closure U-Turn

Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has told TV3 News he was frightened to return to his home after being threatened with a “bullet in the head”.

The threat came after he voted in favour of closing the A&E department at Roscommon Hospital.

“You have people coming up to you and saying they’ll put a bullet in your head or saying people will die because of your actions, these things certainly affect you,” he said.

During the election campaign Feighan promised constituents that the emergency department would be retained, but then back-tracked and voted for its closure.

“The Gardai have been working closely with me, they’re keeping an eye on my house. There are nights you wouldn’t go home to your own house, I live three miles away in an isolated area.

“I have apologised publicly at public meetings. I have said I was extremely sorry the way this was handled,” Feighan added.
