Man Killed In Road Traffic Collision

A man has been killed in a road traffic accident this morning which occurred at New Street, Killaloe.

The car veered off the road and collided with a pole at approximately 9.30am.

The 83-year-old male driver died at the scene and has been removed to Limerick Regional Hospital.

The road is closed pending a Garda Forensic Examination and diversions are in place.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Teen Arrested After Man Is Shot In The Face In Limerick
Gardai are appealing for information after a man was shot in the face in Limerick on Sunday. A 21-year-old was shot at Hyde Road shortly after midnight. He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where his injuries are described as not life threatening. A 19-year-old has bee arrested in connection with the incident.

Man Dies In Limerick Collision
A man has died in a crash in Co Limerick. The car veered off the road and hit a ditch at Dromsallagh at around 4.15am on Sunday, 05 June. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man is currently being treated for his injuries at the University Hospital Limerick. The road has been re-opened.

Specific Target Need To Reduce Road Injuries
A specific target is needed to reduce serious road traffic injuries, Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Brian Hayes, has said. Deputy Hayes said that European targets on road fatalities have been a major factor in reducing deaths on our roads the Dublin MEP believes that a European target on serious road traffic injuries must be introduced.

Government Publishes Road Traffic Bill 2015
The government has approved the publication of the Road Traffic Bill 2015, Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe has announced. The main provisions of the Bill include: • A new offence of driving/being in charge of a mechanically propelled vehicle with the presence of certain illicit drugs – cannabis, cocaine, and heroin – in your blood.
