Explosives And Handgun Recovered In Kildare

A number of explosives and handguns have been found at an address in County Kildare, after a special unit search in the area.

A spokesman for Gardaí said that as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of dissident Republicans, Gardaí from the Special Detective Unit carried out a search operation in an open area near Celbridge Co Kildare this afternoon.

During the course of the search a handgun and three improvised explosive devices were recovered. The Defence Forces EOD team were called to the scene and examined the devices.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.

Gardai Investigate Explosives Found In Co Kildare
Gardai are investigating two viable explosive devices found in the area of the rail line in Athay, County Kildare. The Army Bomb Disposal Team were alerted and the area was delared safe at arounf 7pm. Train services had to be stopped for a short while and house also had to be evacuated.

Cannabis Seized In Co Kildare
Gardaí in Co Kildare have seized cannabis worth an estimated €800,000. The find was made during a planned search of a house in Crossmorris on Monday. Officers seized 40kg of cannabis herb in the search. A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the find.

Five Questioned Over Arms Find
Garda are continuing to question five men held in custody over gangland activity. Early yesterday, the men were detailed in Kill, Co. Kildare following a Gardaí stop and search operation that uncovered two guns. It is believed they were en route to commit a serious crime.

Status Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued Across 11 Counties
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rain across 11 counties. The warning, which came into effect at 7am this morning, is in place for Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. The warning will remain in place until 6am tomorrow, when it will be reviewed.

Gardaí Appeal For Missing Teen Nathan Mulligan
Gardaí are appealing for information to trace the whereabouts of 16-year-old Nathan Mulligan. Nathan has been missing from Athy, County Kildare, since Tuesday 21 July 2015. Nathan is described as being 5'10", of athletic build with brown eyes and black hair which is shaved at the sides.
