Father Of Fianna Fail Leader Passes

Paddy Martin, father of the Fianna Fail party's leader has passed away.

Paddy Martin, 89, was a former boxer, representing Ireland at an international level.

Responding to the news on Monday, Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader Éamon Ó Cuív TD

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Paddy Martin, father of Micheál Martin.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences along with those of my Parliamentary Party colleagues and the entire Fianna Fáil organisation to Micheál, his brothers and sisters, and the Martin family at this time.”

He is survived by his five children and 14 grandchildren.

It is understood that the Fianna Fáil leader branded Sinn Féin as a "mafioso organisation". Criticising the leader, Sinn Féin Councillor Donnchadh O'Laoghaire, said: "On one level, Deputy Martin's comments are laughable.

Tributes Paid To Late Brian Lenihan
The Irish Republic's former Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has died from cancer. He was a member of parliament for the (now) opposition Fianna Fail party. Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has now paid tribute to Mr Lenihan describing him as "an intellectual powerhouse".

Fianna Fail Using 'Smear Tactics' – Adams
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams has accused Fianna Fáil of engaging in a smear campaign against him.
