Rabbitte Publishes Report on North South Interconnector

Minister for Energy, Pat Rabbitte, has published the report on the possibility of a North, South underground power line.

The report by an International Expert Commission completed its report on whether it was feasible to construct, within six months, undergrounding Meath-Tyrone 400KV power lines.

Announcing the publication of the Commission's report, Minister Rabbitte said: "I welcome the Commission's report which fulfils an important Programme for Government Commitment. This afternoon I have sent a copy of the report to Andrew Doyle TD, the Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture so that it can be considered by the committee. I have also forwarded copies of the report to Eirgrid and ESB Networks."

"After a brief period of consultation I will revert to Government with a memorandum on Security of Energy Supply, to which Eirgrid and the planning process will have regard."

Govt Accused Of Letting Homeless Children 'Fall Through The Cracks'
Homeless children are "falling through the cracks of the child welfare system", Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Children and Youth Affairs, Anne Rabbitte, has said. Expressing "deep concern", Deputy Rabbitte accused the government and Tusla of failing to address "the crisis of child homelessness which is gripping the country".
