Former Anglo Chief Arrested

The former chairman and chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into financial irregularities at a financial institution.

Seán FitzPatrick was arrested by appointment this morning and is being questioned at Bray Garda Station in Co Wicklow, Gardia said.

It is the second time he has been detained in connection with the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the former Ango-Irish Bank.

Gardaí had to go before the District Court to secure a warrant for his arrest.

The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement are conducting the investigation.

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Workers were offered a 5% pay increase and a non-consolidated one-off payment of £1,500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.

Former Anglo Finance Director Arrested
The former finance director of the Anglo Irish Bank has been arrested by gardaí investigating financial irregularities. Officers revealed today Willie McAteer was arrested at his home in Rathgar, south Dublin, at 6.30am this morning and taken for questioning to Irishtown Garda station in Dublin’s south inner city.

Arrest Follows Skerries Body Discovery
Gardaí in Balbriggan have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a men in his 50s at a house in Mourne Park, Skerries, yesterday evening. The body was found at about 18:00. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A gardai investigation into the killing of Ciaran O’Connell has led to the arrest of two men, both in their early twenties. O’Connell died on Wednesday after being assaulted at a St Patrick’s Day party on Sunday night.

Three More Questioned Over Quinn Murder
Three men are being questioned by the PSNI about the brutal gang-murder of Co Armagh man Paul Quinn after three others were arrested by gardaí earlier. The three men arrested by the PSNI are from the Crossmaglen and Cullyhanna areas and while two are aged in their 50s, one is in his 20s.
