Irish Film Heads To Hollywood
American distributors have snapped up a superhero flick filmed entirely in Ireland giving the Irish film industry a much needed boost.
'Death of a Superhero', which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, has been snapped up by distribution companies in the United States, Canada and Latin America.
The movie will head to Hollywood after a deal was signed by Tribeca Enterprises in the US and Pasatiempo Pictures in Latin America for distribution.
Produced by Grand Pictures in Dublin the movie was filmed on Irish soil, in Dublin and Wicklow, and was part-funded by the Irish Film Board.
The Irish Film Board said it was great to make a US sale, among others, in an incredibly competitive market for independent film.
"Growing international audiences for Irish films in a priority for the industry," said a spokeswoman.
"The film board has had a number of successful films this year to date including The Guard and Knuckle which have both sold in the US and elsewhere."
Death of a Superhero tells the story of terminally ill teenager Donald Clarke, who escapes life to his illustrated comic adventures.
It is directed by Ian Fitzgibbon (Perrier's Bounty, A Film with me in it, Spin the Bottle) and stars Andy Serkis (The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Lord of the Rings) Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Nowhere Boy), Michael McElhatton (Intermission, Adam & Paul, I Went Down) and Sharon Horgan (Pulling).

Irish Films Get Cannes Exposure
The Irish film industry will be well represented at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival. All Good Children, directed by Alicia Duffy, has been officially selected for the Directors Fortnight section, and with lots of Irish films screening and selling in the Cannes Film Market which runs from May 12th to 23rd.
