'Lyingeyes' Murder Plot Appeal Rejected

A woman found guilty of attempting to hire a hit man on the Internet to kill her wealthy lover and his two sons has had the appeal against her convictions rejected.

Sharon Collins was in court for the ruling this morning, wearing black trousers and a grey jacket, for barely a minute to hear the three-judge court dismiss her appeal.

The Court of Criminal Appeal refused all 23 grounds of Ms Collins' appeal.

The 47-year-old was convicted in 2008 of soliciting so-called Internet hitman for hire Essam Eid to murder her lover PJ Howard and his two sons.

The trial heard she used the online alias 'lyingeyes' in emails to Eid who was not a hitman but a Las Vegas poker dealer - come con man. The trial subsequently became know as the 'Lyingeyes Trial'.

At her sentencing hearing in November 2008, Mr Howard appealed for the judge to spare his former partner from jail.

The mother of two will now return to Mountjoy to serve out her six-year sentence but it is expected she will be released at the end of next year.
