Crowley Won't Seek FF Nomination For Presidency
Brian Crowley has announced that he will not be seeking Fianna Fáil's nomination for the forthcoming Presidential election in the Irish Republic.
The party's MEP for Ireland South had previously expressed his desire to run for president to party leader Micheál Martin.
However, Mr Martin had approached broadcaster Gay Byrne last month to offer his support as an Independent candidate. Mr Byrne later decided not to run.
Announcing his decision in an interview with RTÉ News, Mr Crowley said he felt that there was a lack of support for an internal party candidate, but said that he bore no animosity towards Mr Martin.
Mr Crowley also said that he would not rule out running for the Presidency in the future.
Mr Martin said that he respected Mr Crowley's decision and said that a final decision on the party's strategy for the election would be made in the coming weeks.
