Dublin Air Ambulance Goes 24-Hour

A 24-hour air ambulance has begun operations today at Dublin Airport.

AeroMedevac made the decision after it was criticised because its base at Weston Airport, outside Dublin, was only available during daylight flying hours.

Yesterday, it confirmed that it had been clearance by the Dublin Airport Authority to relocate its operations to allow for a 24-hour service.

The company's Cessna Citation jet, which is a fully equipped air ambulance, will now be able to fly 24 hours a day from today.

The move comes after AeroMedevac was hired last month to provide airlift services to Crumlin Children's Hospital, following the controversy over liver transplant patient Maedhbh McGivern.

Maedhbh was forced to turn down the offer of a transplant from King's College Hospital in London because although Crumlin Children's Hospital had arranged a private flight to take her there, she would not have been able to get there in time for the organ to be used.
