Arrests Made In Dublin Organised Crime Probe

As part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity members of the Organised Crime Unit at the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation have arrested three men and recovered an explosive device and ammunition.

On Monday around 11.20pm members from the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two vehicles at Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10. During the course of the search a suspicious device was recovered. The Army E.O.D team attended the scene and the device, which was deemed to be viable, was made safe and removed for further examination.

Two men aged in their late 20s and early 30s were arrested at the scene. They are currently detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

In a follow up operation a house in the Wheatfield area was searched. During the search a Gardai recovered a large quantity of ammunition and man aged in his late 20s was arrested. He is currently detained at Ronanstown Garda Station.

€9,000 Missing From Garda Evidence
An investigation has been launched after the discovery that €9,000 went missing from an evidence bag at a garda station in Co Dublin. The money was part of €26,000 recovered following a robbery at a shop and post office in Lusk in January.

Over 100 Arrests Made In Organised Crime Sweep
113 people have been arrested as part of an operation targeting organised crime. Gardaí carried out some 236 planned searches across the country in relation to the investigation. Around 4,200 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €3.5 million were seized at five grow houses in counties Cork, Meath, Wexford and Dublin yesterday.

Arrests Made In Investigation Into Stolen Bicycles
Three men have been arrested in connection with the theft and sale of bicycles in the Mallow District. The arrests came after garda stopped and searched a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday 13 January. Garda had increased their presence in the area following a number of bicycles thefts in recent weeks.

Arrests Follow Dublin Heroin Seizure
Two people have been arrested following the seizure of €6.5 million of heroin by gardaí in Dublin. More than 30kgs of the drug were found in a van, which was searched in the Palmerstown area on Tuesday night. A 35-year-old man was arrested and a woman, also aged 35, was later arrested during follow-up searches.

Arrests Made In Illegal Immigration And Work Permits Investigation
Gardaí from the National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) have arrested 10 people as part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal immigration and work permits. A number of search operations have been carried by GNIB officers, working alongside the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the Department of Social Protection.
