Colum Mc Cann Scoops Impac Award

Colum Mc Cann, winner of the 2009 National Book Award in the US and 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China, has won the largest fiction prize in the World at the Impac Awards.

At the award ceremony held in Dublin, Mr Mc Cann completed the hat trick for his now world famous book ‘Let the Great World Spin’ and picked up the €100,000 prize money at the Impac awards.

Minister for Arts, Jimmy Deenihan, described the book as a breathtaking and a brave novel: “I am delighted that an Irish writer has once again won this prestigious international award. This underscores the enormous esteem in which Irish writers and literature is held.”

The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is the largest and most international prize of its kind It involves libraries from all corners of the globe. It is open to books written in any language.

Irish Writer Wins Top US Book Award
Irish writer Colum McCann’s latest book, Let the Great World Spin, has won the top fiction prize at the US National Book Awards. The Dubliner’s latest novel is a story about life in New York City in the 1970s and earned the writer a prize of $10,000, beating off competition from four other scribes.

€7m Funding For 62 Research Projects
The government is set to announce almost €7m of funding for 62 early stage scientific research projects. The funding will be part of the Foundation Ireland's Technology Innovation Development Award programme, will be in collaboration with Enterprise Ireland and will be targeted at projects thought to have a commercial benefit.
