Two Arrested Over Cavan Post Office Robbery

Gardaí at Baileboro are continuing their investigations into a robbery at a Post Office at Mullagh Co Cavan yesterday.

Around 12.15pm, two masked men armed with a hammer and a knife entered the Post Office. They threatened staff and customers, smashed a counter glass panel and demanded cash.

They left the scene in a blue car in the direction of Virginia having taken an undisclosed amount of cash.

Following an operation by Gardaí, two men, aged 42 and 30, were arrested at short time later in Baileboro in connection with the incident and are currently detained at Baileboro Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Investigations are continuing.

Govt Accused of Undermining Post Office Network
The government has been accused of continuing to undermine the Post Office network across Ireland. Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Communications Michael Moynihan made the comments after the Department of Social Protection issued letters to jobseekers recommending that they bypass Post Offices by using financial institutions to receive their payments.
