Fresh Appeal Launched Over Galway Bus Crash

A new appeal has been launched into a fatal collision in County Galway that led to the loss of two lives and left a number of seriously injured.

The collision happened at about 7.45pm on Tuesday and involved a van and a bus containing over 20 students. The crash, which took place at Glenafosha which is about 3 miles outside Tuam, has so far been blamed on extreme weather conditions at the start of the week.

Two males, one in his early 60s and the other in his 30s, received serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. There was 27 passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, 10 people were taken to Galway University hospital.

Gardai investigating the incident have this morning issued a new appeal for information from witnesses and are asking motorists who where driving in the area to contact them.

Witnesses are asked to contact Tuam Garda station 093 70840, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Met Éireann is saying the storm has passed its peak in the west of the country. However, very strong winds will continue in the east and north, easing overnight.

The Road Safety Authority is appealing to motorists to take extra care while driving while AA Roadwatch is warning motorists to be aware of surface water and fallen debris on the roads.

A gale warning is still currently in force with west to northwest gales continuing this morning on Coasts from Slyne Head to Fair Head to Carnsore Point and on the Irish Sea, occasionally reaching strong gale force at first in the north Irish Sea.
