Asians Behind Wicklow Dope Factory

Gardaí in Wicklow believe that an Asian gang is behind a massive drug-making operation, which they smashed last week.

Last Thursday night, a €500,000 cannabis factory was discovered in a rural farmhouse, at the Cullenmore bends, outside the village of Ashford, Co Wicklow.

Police from the Wicklow division of the National Drugs Unit made the find, which contained over 1,000 cannabis plants and various other pieces of drug-related equipment including humidifiers and heaters.

Senior sources believe the gang were using the factory as a moneymaking racket to fund their criminal activities.

"These guys would be of a big interest to the Gardai nationally,” the source told the Wicklow News.

It is understood that when Gardai went to the property a number of people, who they suspect are part of the criminal enterprise, where there.

However, the gang members escaped into the surrounding area despite being pursued for a time by a Gardaí helicopter from the air support unit and at the moment, no arrests have yet been made in the enquiry but the investigation is ongoing.
