Court Date For Gang Suspect

A man will apear in court at Thurles later following his arrest in connection with an ongoing Garda operation into organised crime and drug distribution in Co Tipperary.

The man was among eight men arrested in Tipperary last night following the discovery of four pipe bombs, a hand gun and ammunition.

The operation involved 15 searches conducted in houses by the Tipperary divisional search team where, in one of the searches in Lacken, on the outskirts of Tipperary town, pipe bombs, ammunition and a handgun were found.

The other seven men have been released on bail and are due to appear at Tipperary District Court next Wednesday.

Last night, Irish Army explosive experts attended the scene and controlled explosions were carried out on three of the devices while a fourth was made safe and is to be examined by gardaí.

The handgun and ammunition were also removed for technical examination.
