Ten Arrested Over Hurler Kidnap Attempt

A total of ten people have been arrested in connection with the attempted kidnapping of All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurler Adrian Ronan.

Gardaí in Kilkenny investigating the attempted tiger kidnapping of the bank worker and the attempted robbery of a Bank of Ireland Branch in Kilkenny on the 3rd of November last year said this morning they had carried out a number of searches in the Dublin area and have arrested ten people – six males, and four females aged in their 20s and 30s.

A gardaí spokesman said the ten are detained in various stations throughout the South –east including Kilkenny, Carlow Waterford, Thomastown and Tramore.

During the incident, Mr Ronan, his wife, Mary, and their three children were targeted by a gang who attempted to rob the Bank of Ireland branch in Kilkenny city.

Mrs Ronan was held while her husband was forced to go and take a sum of cash.

The gang failed in their attempt to steal money and no one was harmed in the incident.

Six of those arrested are being detained under the Criminal Justice Act while the remaining four persons are being held under Offences Against the State Act.
