Man Arrested Over Reid Murder

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Dublin today in connection with the murder of a man last August.

Gardai investigating the death of Pierce Reid on August 7 last year said they have this morning arrested a male in relation to the investigation.

The man was arrested in the Clondalkin area this morning and is currently being detained in Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Last year, Gardai launched an investigation after a shooting incident at Lealand Close, Clondalkin, which occurred at around 9.50pm.

The 25-year-old was shot a number of times in the head outside a house in the area.

A father of one Mr Reid was expecting his second child at the time of his killing. Gardaí said the victim was well known to them.

The shooting of Mr Reid is believed to be connected to two separate shootings that took place in July 2009 and which is thought to be part of a continuing feud between two west Dublin gangs.

Mr Reid was from the area and was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he later died.

Officers launched an appeal shortly after the shooting when a grey BMW car was found at Lindisfarne Park and an attempt had failed to set the car on fire.
