Four Men Charged Under New Laws To Tackle Organised Crime

Four men, originally from Crumlin, have become the first to charged under tough new laws to tackle organised crime.

David Atkinson, 41, Gerard Carey, 33, Philip Kerfoot, 38, and Dwayne Stacey, 22, appeared in Dublin District Court and were the first to be charged with participating in the activities of a gang they knew existed.

Stacey and Kerfoot were also charged after armed gardai foiled a post office raid in Drumcondra, north Dublin, on October 16 last year. Carey and Atkinson had already been charged for the same offence.

No application for bail was made and all four were remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverdale District Court on 18 May.

The four men were granted legal aid.
