Taxi Driver Sought In Deadly Assault Probe

The investigation into a fatal assault on a foreigner earlier this year is being renewed with a call for information from a taxi driver who took the dying victim to hospital.

Gardaí at Fitzgibbon Street in Dublin investigating a serious assault that occurred on the 13th February this year are seeking information in relation to this incident.

The victim, 30-year-old Ovidiu Miut, a Romanian national, was seriously assaulted at a flat at Mountjoy Square, Dublin at approximately 11.30pm that night and died as a result of his injuries at the Mater Hospital on 15th February.

Friends of the injured man hailed a taxi on Mountjoy Square, which then brought them to the Mater Hospital arriving there shortly afterwards.

Gardaí are now particularly anxious to speak to the taxi driver who brought the injured man to the Mater Hospital.

The taxi stopped outside the hospital on the North Circular Road and alerted hospital staff.

They are also anxious to speak to a second taxi driver who pulled up outside the hospital at the same time.

A 27-year-old man has since appeared before the courts in relation to this incident.

Anyone with information and particularly the two taxi drivers are asked to contact the Incident room at Fitzgibbon Street at 01-6668400, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
