Fatal Crashes Probed

Gardai are investigating a deadly road traffic collision on the N81 at Whitestown, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow this morning.

It happened at approximately 10.15am when a van and a car crashed.

The driver of the car - a man in his early 70s - was taken to Naas General Hospital, where he pronounced dead.

The driver of the van was also taken to Naas General Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The N81 is currently closed to allow Garda forensic collision investigators carry our an examination of the scene and diversions are in place.

Meanwhile, police in Co Waterford are investigating another fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 3.30pm yesterday at Colligan, Dungarvan.

They said that a car and a motorbike were in collision and that a 19-year-old male motorcyclist was fatally injured.

The female driver of the car (only occupant) in her 30s has been seriously injured and has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The scene was closed for technical examination and traffic diversions put in place as investigations were continuing.

Man Dies In Galway Crash
A man has been killed in a road crash in Co. Galway. The two-car collision happened on the main Gort to Ennis Road near the Galway-Clare border around 7:30am this morning. The victim is understood to be the driver of one of the vehicles, while the driver of the other vehicle was also injured and has been taken to hospital.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Driver Killed In Mayo Crash Named
The male driver killed in a traffic collision in County Mayo yesterday has been named by Gardai this morning. Peter Meenan a 61-year-old from Ballyhaunis, in Mayo was killed in a road collision that occurred between 2.30pm and 2.45pm on the main Claremorris to Ballyhaunis road (N60) at the townland of Cuilmore.

Two Dead In Separate Collisions
Two people have died on Ireland's roads after traffic collisions in Dublin and Kilkenny in the last two days. In the latest incident, a male aged 19 was fatally injured when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a stationary vehicle. His body was taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.
