Two More Anglo Bosses Face Questioning

At least two other senior figures from Anglo Irish Bank will face questioning by Gardaí, it was revealed today.

Gardaí specialising in fraud investigations are expected to make further inquiries into suspected misconduct at the troubled bank.

The news comes as the former finance chief, Willie McAteer, was released from custody yesterday evening after spending the previous night under Gardaí custody and facing questions surrounding loans being taken by directors at the bank.

MrMcAteer had been held over- night for over 36 hours and allowed an eight- hour rest before members of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation continued questioning him at around 8.30am.

Gardaí revealed he was questioned for 23 hours and 45 minutes while detained under section 10 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act, which relates to accounting fraud.

The former finance boss's arrest came after Gardaí had seized documents, files and computers on Wednesday during a search at his Rathgar home at 6.30am.

His detention over alleged financial irregularities at Anglo follows that of its former chairman Seán FitzPatrick last week.

According to reports this morning, Garda said specialist fraud officers expect to question two other senior figures, over the same issue of the controversial transfer of over €7.5bn to Anglo from Irish Life & Permanent in September 2008.

A Gardaí spokesman confirmed the investigation was ongoing and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
