Separate Road Collisions Fatal

Two men, one of whom was an elderly pensioner, have been killed on Ireland's roads this weekend in two separate incidents.

In the latest collision, a 26-year-old male was seriously injured when the car he was driving collided with a wall. He was taken by Ambulance to Mullingar Hospital where he later passed away.

Gardai at Mullingar are investigating the fatal collision, which occurred on the N52 at Cloghan, Mullingar, Co Westmeath on Sunday morning.

The scene of the accident has re-opened following examination by Gardai Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who travelled on the N52, at Cloghan near Mullingar this morning between 6am and 7.15am to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station 044-9384000, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111, or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile on Saturday, a male pedestrian aged in his 70s was fatally injured when he was struck by a car.

Officers in Athlone have also launched an investigation into the incident which occurred on the M6 in Monksland, Athlone, Co Westmeath, at approximately 6am. 

 



The eastbound carriageway of the M6 is currently closed between Junctions 14 and 12 pending a forensic examination.

Motorists travelling east are advised to divert onto the old N6 between Ballinasloe and Athlone.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. When police arrived it was discovered that a white Seat Leon had left the carriageway close to the junction with Grangefoyle Road.

Two Teens Killed In Separate Collisions
Two teenagers have been fatally injured during two separate road collisions in Westmeath and County Cork. In the most recent incident, an 18-year-old male passenger of a car was killed after the car he was traveling in collided with a van about one mile outside Rosscarbery on the Skibbereen Road in County Cork.

Man Arrested Over Mullingar Drug Seizure
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drug seizure in Co Westmeath. Gardai from the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit stopped a car near Kinnegad at approximately 7:30pm on Wednesday. Heroin worth an estimated €45,000 was discovered during a search of the vehicle.

53-Year-Old Arrested Over Mullingar Murder
A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Brigid Maguire in Mullingar. The body of Ms Maguire was discovered by her teenage daughter at about 21:30 on Saturday, 14 November. The suspect is currently being detained under the provision of Section 4 of the The Criminal Justice Act at Mullingar Garda Station.

Westmeath Pharmacy 'Ramraid' Probed
Two suspects are being held as gardaí in Mullingar investigate a burglary at a pharmacy involving a car being driven into the building. It happened in Oliver Plunkett Street in Mullingar at 2.15am this morning (Thursday) and saw officers later arresting two men aged 21 and 19.
