Irish Man Dies After Dutch Attack

An Irish man who was left in a critical condition after an incident in the Netherlands this week has died in hospital.

Niall Coyle (33), from Co Roscommon, was attacked on Monday night outside a bar in Dordrecht, a town about 15 kilometres southeast of Rotterdam.

Mr Coyle, from Four Roads in Co Roscommon, was working as an electrician in the city.

Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the attack, which left the Roscommon man with serious head injuries.

Locals say his immediate family have flown to the Netherlands.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to Mr Coyle's family.

The incident comes only a month after the Department of Foreign Affairs announced that the body of a missing Mayo man was recovered from the water in the Dutch city.

Noel Gill, a 31-year-old father of two, had been missing since 19 November before being found at the beginning of December.

He was last seen going home after watching the France-Ireland football match in a pub in the city centre.
