Serious Accident At Cork Roundabout

There has been a serious collision at the Dunkettle Roundabout in Cork, Gardaí have confirmed.

The crash happened around 5am this morning on the slip road on the main Midleton to Cork Road.

Traffic was badly affected by the crash.

Meanwhile, SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat has extended his sympathies to the motorist who died this morning in the North following a collision with a police vehicle on the Ballybogey Road near Portrush, Co Antrim.

"All road deaths are tragic and regrettable but one in the run-up to Christmas is particularly heart-breaking.

"My understanding is this accident was occurred as a result of a collision between a police vehicle and a Renault Clio car on the Ballybogey Road between Ballymoney and Portrush. My sincerest sympathies go out to all those involved and I wish to extended my condolences to the friends of family of the unfortunate man who lost his life," he said.

The accident was at about 4am on Thursday. A 29-year-old man who was also in the Clio has been taken to hospital with injuries that are described as not life-threatening.

Man Leaves Scene Of Fatal Accident
A man has been arrested after fleeing from the scene of a fatal accident on County Cork in the early hours of this morning. Two men in their 20s were killed in a head on collision of two vehicles at approximately 2.45am this morning on the N25 at Caherulton, Castlemartyr, County Cork.

Four Killed On Irish Roads This Weekend
A number of separate road crashes this weekend have claimed four lives, including a father and son. John Gallagher, 55, and his 24-year-old son Sean died when their car collided with another vehicle at Burt on Saturday morning. The collision occurred at the junction of Slab Road, Burt, on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at approximately 10.

Four Men Dead In Separate Collisions
A total of four men have died in a spate of separate car collisions over the weekend. In the most recent incident, a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a man in his late 20s. The collision which occurred at Cloghnadromin, Ballysimon, CoLimerick at approx 1.30pm on Sunday.

Missing Man Body Recovered From Lake
The body of missing Crossmaglen man Padraig Campbell has been found. The 37-year-old’s body was recovered from a lake in Co Monaghon last night. Campbell, of Drumbroy Road, Castleblaney, has been missing from the 18 March. Gardai have described his death as a tragic accident, however a post-mortem will be carried out.

Two Arrested Over Garda Motorcycle Collision
Two men have been arrested in connection with a road accident involving a gardaí motorcycle. According to reports a garda officer was injured when his official garda motorcycle collided with a car on Lennox Street at around 14:00 on Wednesday.
