Boy Killed In Collision

A four-year-old boy has been tragically killed in a vehicle collision in Westmeath.

Gardai at Mullingar are investigating the incident in which two vehicles collided along the N4 outside Mullingar at approximately 5pm yesterday evening.

The crash involved a van and a jeep towing a trailer. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.

The four-year-old boy, who was travelling in the jeep, was fatally injured and taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and another passenger in the jeep were also taken to hospital. The driver of the van did not require hospital treatment.

The road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Traffic Collision In Co Longford
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Co Longford on Sunday, 17 July. An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, collided with a tractor at approximately 11.50pm in Cloonart, Bornacoola. The man was pronounced dead at Mullingar Hospital.

Man Arrested Over Mullingar Drug Seizure
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drug seizure in Co Westmeath. Gardai from the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit stopped a car near Kinnegad at approximately 7:30pm on Wednesday. Heroin worth an estimated €45,000 was discovered during a search of the vehicle.

53-Year-Old Arrested Over Mullingar Murder
A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Brigid Maguire in Mullingar. The body of Ms Maguire was discovered by her teenage daughter at about 21:30 on Saturday, 14 November. The suspect is currently being detained under the provision of Section 4 of the The Criminal Justice Act at Mullingar Garda Station.

Westmeath Pharmacy 'Ramraid' Probed
Two suspects are being held as gardaí in Mullingar investigate a burglary at a pharmacy involving a car being driven into the building. It happened in Oliver Plunkett Street in Mullingar at 2.15am this morning (Thursday) and saw officers later arresting two men aged 21 and 19.

Man Seriously Injured In Traffic Collision
A man in his twenties has been seriously injured in a single vehicle traffic collision in Castlepollard Co. Westmeath. The collision occurred on the R195 near Castlepollard shortly after 03:00 on Sunday morning when the man's car collided with a ditch. He was taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital where his condition is believed to be serious.
