The man is being detained at Arklow Garda Station. The victim, who is in his 50s, is being treated at St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as critical.

The shooting took place just before 4.30pm at Three Wells Farm. A second man is believed to have shot the man using a shotgun once in the upper body.
