Mayo Gang Assaults Injuries Probed

Four men have been hurt during two separate assaults by gangs of men in a Co Mayo town over the weekend.

The first incident occurred at approximately 3.30am, when two men aged 27 and 32-years-old were assaulted while walking down New Street, Ballinrobe by a number of men.

During the attack both men were hurt and taken to Castlebar General Hospital for their injuries.

The 32-year-old man was released from hospital a short time later; however the 27-year-old man has since been transferred to Beaumount Hospital Dublin with serious head injuries.

A short time later a second incident occurred at the Neale Road, again in Ballinrobe, where another two males, this time 20 and 31-years-old were assaulted by a number of men.

Both received stab wounds their necks. They were both taken to Castlebar General Hospital for treatment.

No arrests have been made at this time but Gardaí have launched investigations, which are continuing into both incidents.

A special divisional unit has been set up to investigate the incidents.

It is understood that a group of three or four men carried out both attacks.

Gardaí investigating two serious incidents at Ballinrobe Co Mayo at the weekend have made arrests. Having conducted a number of searches this morning (Wednesday) in counties Mayo, Galway and Sligo, officers have arrested three men.

Six Questioned Following Road Crash
Six men have been arrested and are being questioned by gardaí following a three-car collision. The incident happened at around 6.40pm on Tuesday, in Termonfeckin, Co Louth. A man and woman sustained injuries, not believed to be life-threatening in the accident, and were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment.

Health Minister Seeks Advice On Blood Donations From Gay Men
Minister for Health Leo Varadkar said that he is seeking advice from the Chief Medical Officer on reviewing the ban on gay men donating blood. In a statement Mr Varadkar said he favoured a deferral period – which would allow gay men to donate blood if they had not engaged in certain sexual activity during an agreed time period.

Belfast Man Left Shaken By Burglars
PSNI detectives in west Belfast are appealing for information after a report of a burglary at residential premises in the Ross Road area on Friday, 19th August. They said that, shortly before 11.05pm, it was reported that a group of unknown masked men entered a house in the area and made off with a sum of money.
