Guests Locked In Hotel Fridge By Robbers

Two guests who awoke during a raid at a hotel in Co Wicklow were locked in a fridge by robbers.

During the incident on Tuesday, a gang of masked armed men stormed the hotel and locked two guests in a large kitchen refrigerator while they raided cash tills.

The men, brandishing iron bars and hurleys, burst into the Arklow Bay Hotel at around 5am. When confronted by the two guests, who were woken from their sleep, they grabbed the couple and locked them up.

Owner Brian Brennan said it was "a frightening and harrowing experience" for the guests.

The raiders are believed to have fled from the scene with only a small amount of cash.

The gang made their escape in a jeep, which was stolen from one of the guests staying in the hotel.

No one was injured in the incident.
