Full Alert As Mayo Pipelaying Work Starts
A major security operation is underway today in Co Mayo as work on the contentious Corrib gas offshore pipeline enters its final stages.
Tensions were heightened as the Solitaire, the world's largest pipe-laying ship, arrived in Broadhaven Bay at around 10pm last night.
Two Irish Navy vessels, around 300 Garda officers and private security guards were called into Glengad, as protesters surrounded the boat.
The arrival of the Solitaire has sparked fears of a repeat of sea and land clashes which marred a similar attempt to complete the contentious works last year.
Two fishermen were arrested just hours before the Solitaire arrived.
Gardai have sealed off all entrances to Glengad beach to prevent campaigners gaining access.
It is expected to remain closed until early next week when the work will be completed.

Carrickmacross Kerry Flood Plant Workers Stage 24-Hour Strike
Workers at a Kerry Foods plant in Co Monaghan have staged strike action in protest at an attempt to make 31 workers redundant without agreement. A 24-hour work stoppage took place at the factory from 7.30am in Carrickmacross on Tuesday, 06 March. SIPTU Organiser, Jim McVeigh, said a further two work stoppages will take place on 13 and 20 March.

Labour Urges Further Talks In Dublin Bus Dispute
Labour's spokesperson on Defence, Transport, Tourism and Sport has said that further talks must take place to resolve the ongoing dispute at Dublin Bus. Mr Brendan Ryan made the call following reports on Tuesday of three, 48-hour work stoppages due to take place in September.

Operators at the Emergency Call Answering Service in Navan are to stage a 12 hour work stoppage on Thursday, according to a report by RTÉ. It is understood that the industrial is being taken after the Communication Workers' Union members backed the action by a majority of 84% in a vote held in January. The operators will stop work at 08:00.

FG Launch Plan To Support Working Families
Fine Gael has launched a new plan aimed at supporting working families by "making work pay". Launched by an Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Simon Harris, the plan included details of a new Working Family Payment, to ensure that every parent working 15 hours or more per week takes home at least €11.
