RTÉ Workers Take Pay Cut
In a ground-breaking move, staff at the state-run broadcaster, RTÉ are to take a pay cut after becoming what is thought to be the first-ever public body in the Irish Republic's workforce to vote for a wage reduction.
The workers voted by a margin of 56.7% to 43.3% to accept pay cuts ranging from 2.5% for those earning more than €25,000 a year to 12.5% for those earning more than €255,000 a year.
However, bosses refused to reveal to what extent the broadcaster's biggest stars such as Pat Kenny and Gerry Ryan will be affected by the wage hit.
But, it is known that the 'big names' had already taken a voluntary 10% pay cut, amid attempts to trim €10m off the wage bill this year.
RTE needs to make up a €68m shortfall in revenue this year.

Marking EU Equal Pay Day 2018, Labour has said that it is time for the Government to act on the Gender Pay Gap in Ireland. Last month, the Seanad passed all stages of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (Gender Pay Gap) Information Bill 2017, a Private Members Bill initiated by the Labour group in the Seanad.

New National Pay Deal Agreement Reached
An agreement has been reached at the Labour Relations Commission over a new national pay deal. Under the proposals for a new public service pay deal, government employees with earnings over €185,000 will face a 10% pay cut, RTÉ have reported. Pay cuts for staff earning over €65,000 would begin at 5.5% and rise progressively to the 10% figure.
