Investigation Launched As HSE Laptops Go Missing

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the theft of 15 laptops from the offices of the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Co Roscommon.

According to a HSE spokesman, information on 13 of the laptops has been encrypted rendering any sensitive information stored on them inaccessible.

Of the remaining two laptops one contains slides relating to office training while it is unknown if content containing any confidential information relating to patients was stored on the other.

Gardaí are currently interviewing staff in a bid to trace the whereabouts of the laptops, and what unprotected content might be held on them.

The theft took place over the weekend at the Primary, Community & Continuing Care (PCCC) Offices on Lanesboro Road in Roscommon.

PCCC offices are responsible for healthcare services other than the acute hospitals service.
