Drowning Tragedies Hit Kilkenny Rivers

Two people have drowned in separate incidents in the Barrow and Nore rivers in Co Kilkenny.

The body of a 24-year-old woman was taken from the River Nore in Kilkenny city this morning. Emergency services and the Kilkenny sub-aqua club had earlier been searching for the woman.

It is understood the woman, who is as yet unnamed, went for a swim at 11.30pm last night and never emerged from the water.

Her body was found close to Green's Bridge in the city.

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man drowned in the River Barrow in Co Kilkenny yesterday evening.

The man, who is from New Ross, was taken from the River Barrow in Graiguenamanagh around 6.30pm yesterday evening.

It is understood he was swimming near a diving board in the town when he got into difficulty and was pulled under the water by strong currents.

His body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.

Met Eireann Issues Weather Warning
Met Eireann has updated its weather warning status to orange for the east of the country. This means a further snow warning for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath, with accumulations of up to 5cm.

Woman Stabbed Multiple Times In Kilkenny Shop
A woman has been killed in a knife attack while working at a shop in Kilkenny city centre, garda have reported. The woman, aged in her 20s, was working in the Holland and Barrett shop at Market Cross Shopping Centre, when she was stabbed a number of times.

Man Arrested Over Kilkenny Woman's Death
Gardaí are continuing to question a man in connection with the death of a 42-year-old woman in Kilkenny over the weekend. Lorraine White died after being rushed to St Luke's Hospital, suffering from major internal injuries, last Saturday morning. A post-mortem has been carried out, but the results have not yet been released.
