Second Irish Swine Flu Case Confirmed

A second case of swine flu has been confirmed in Ireland.

The Irish Department of Health said the patient is a woman living in the east of the country who recently travelled from New York.

A spokeswoman said: "She remains at home where she is receiving appropriate treatment and is clinically well."

The woman's contacts and family are being identified in accordance with public health guidelines.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health & Children said the presentation of the case does not come as a surprise.

"As has been said previously, we have expected further cases and indeed, still do. Both the Department of Health & Children and the Health Service Executive had planned for this eventuality and continue preparations in anticipation of further cases.''
