Revenue 'Blocks' Mortgage Relief
The Revenue Commissioners will contact several thousands of homeowners whose mortgage interest relief has been stopped.
The tax relief was limited in the April Budget to homeowners in the first seven years of their loans.
In order to establish who the relief still applies to, Revenue is asking 134,000 homeowners to clarify when their loans started.
Half of the 560,000 people qualified for mortgage interest relief in last month's budget had it stopped.
Of these, 154,000 have been deemed ineligible. They are asked to take no action until Revenue contacts them.
For further information homeowners can call the Revenue Commissioners' local tax office.

Homeowners Lose Mortgage Interest Relief
Controversy has been sparked after it emerged that mortgage relief is to be stopped from tomorrow for 57,000 people currently receiving the benefit. The entitlement is to be suspended from 1 May for everyone except first-time buyers after a Government announcement in its supplementary Budget to limit mortgage interest relief to seven years.

Sinn Féin Calls On The Government To 'Stand Up To Banks'
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been criticised by Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams over his position on the banks refusal to cut variable mortgage rates for struggling homeowners. Mr Adams said that Mr Kenny's response was "not good enough" and that the government needs to "move beyond the rhetoric and force the banks to reduce the interest rates".

Minister To Aid Struggling Homeowners
Minister for Communications Eamon Ryan has announced the Government is planing to help homeowners struggling with mortgage payments. Minister Ryan said yesterday the Government was considering a range of measures to assist homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages after a leading bank announced it may be increasing its mortgage rates.
