Voters 'Want Fianna Fail Out' Claims Fine Gael

The Fine Gael party has claimed that a poll published today shows voters want to get Fianna Fail out of government.

A poll conducted by the Irish Times shows support for the main government party is down to just 21%, with Fine Gael now on 38%.

The Government's dissatisfaction rating has also hit a huge 86%.

The main opposition party Fine Gael has claimed the figures show that people now realise a combination of builders, bankers and Fianna Fail have destroyed the Irish economy.

Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Hanafin, however, said she doesn't believe the figures will be reflected in the upcoming elections on June 5th.

While Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has said Fianna Fáil's poor showing was the price the Government was paying for making tough decisions.

In a radio interview this morning, Mr Ahern said: "If the price of getting Ireland through this very tough situation is making tough decisions that court unpopularity then so be it.

"At this time of severe crisis, polls and elections are less important to Fianna Fáil than making the right choices to lay the right foundations so that when the upturn does take place we will benefit."
