Prisoner's Death Probed

Two separate investigations are under way after a prisoner was found dead in his cell at Limerick Prison.

The man, who was in his 30s, was found in his cell at around 8pm last night.

While it is understood foul play is not suspected, the investigations are being carried out by the gardaí and the Prison Service.

Limerick Prison is a medium security facility which has 270 male and 20 female inmates from all over Munster.

The funeral of murdered prison officer David Black is due to take place today. The 52-year-old father of two was shot as he drove to his work at Maghaberry Prison. The shooting occurred on the M1 in County Armagh on Thursday. A private service is to be held at the family home in Cookstown.

Inmate Dies At Mountjoy Prison
An investigation has been launched after an inmate was found dead in a cell at Mountjoy Prison. It is understood the man, who was in his 30s, was found collapsed in his cell at around 3.30am on Saaturday morning. He was taken to the Mater Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later. A post-mortem will be carried out.
