€8 Million Heroin Seizure Revealed

Irish police are holding two suspects after a successful, intelligence-led operation by the Gardaí National Drugs Unit.

Assisted by the Organised Crime Unit and local Drugs Units, the two men were arrested in the Bayside Crescent area of Sutton in Dublin on Sunday.

They recovered what is believed to be 10kg of heroin with an estimated street value of between €2 million and €8 million - although this figure is depending on forensic and purity analysis.

As part of the operation officers had stopped and searched a car in Bayside Crescent.

The two men aged 43 and 23-years-of-age are being detained at Raheny and Santry Garda Stations under Station under Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act.

This was part of an on-going operation into the activities of a group of organised criminals operating in the Dublin area.

Also over the weekend, and again as part of a planned operation, the Co Cavan Drugs Unit carried out a search of a house in Cavan town on Saturday.

During the course of the search heroin with a street value of €200,000 was seized, along with cannabis plants with a street value of €45,000 and a small quantity of Ecstasy tablets.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and is currently detained at Cavan Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
