Fair City Actor Jailed For Sex With Teen

'Fair City' actor Patrick Dunleavy has been sentenced to two years in for engaging in a sexual act with a 14-year-old boy.

Dunleavy, 42, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced today.

The actor was charged along with another man Thomas Rogers, 45, who pleaded guilty to two charges of engaging in a sexual act with the boy in January and February 2007.

The court heard how the boys parents found suggestive text messages on his phone from both men after he had joined a gay website.

The boy's father, posing as the teenager, then arranged a meeting with one of the men, before following him home and reporting his address to Gardaí.

Both Rogers, of St Catherine's Avenue, Rush, Co Dublin and Dunleavy, of Sherrard Street Lower, Dublin, had no previous convictions, but Judge Martin Nolan ordered they both be registered as sex offenders.

Judge Nolan said that neither Dunleavy nor Rogers "groomed this young man or enticed him to meet them" and accepted that it was "undisputed" that the boy had "for his own reasons" contacted the site himself.

Mr Pieter Le Vert BL, defending Dunleavy, told Judge Nolan his client, who had appeared in 'Fair City', television adverts and on stage, had showed great remorse for his actions.
