12 Arrested Over Geoghegan Murder

A total of 12 people have been arrested in connection with the Shane Geoghegan murder in Limerick last November.

The six men and six women were arrested this morning as part of a major operation by gardaí in counties Clare, Tipperary and Limerick. The shooting of rugby team captain Shane Geoghegan caused national outrage last year, and led to a stepping-up of gardaí action against Ireland's gangs.

Five are being held in a number of stations across the three counties, and one man is being questioned in Dublin.

A quantity of drugs, believed to be heroin, as well as drugs paraphernalia were found during a search in Co Tipperary.

All of those arrested can be held initially for 24 hours.
