Team Rescues Wicklow Mountains Adventurers

A number of people have been rescued from the Wicklow Mountains after getting stranded in the extreme weather.

Rescuers located two stricken Dutch tourists, and brought them down from the Killakee Mountain in the early hours of this morning.

In a separate incident, rescuers were called to the assistance of two jeeps carrying a group of friends that got stuck in the treacherous Sally Gap.

The Glen of Imaal and the Dublin-Wicklow Mountain rescue teams brought the occupants to safety.

It is the second rescue in the previous fortnight by the crews. The Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and neighbouring Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team were both alerted by Gardaí to a stricken walker on 20th January.

Just before lunchtime an injured walker was found requiring assistance in the vicinity of Crone Wood and Maulin Mountain.

The casualty, a 58-year-old female, had slipped and sustained a lower leg injury while out walking with a group of youths.

Conditions were very cold with snow and sleet falling at the time. Mountain Rescue team members attended to the women before she was transported from the hillside to an awaiting Eastern Regional Ambulance Service ambulance.

Those intending to travel through the area are being asked to practice extreme caution during the wintry conditions.
