Elderly Woman Killed By Bus

An Elderly woman has been killed after being hit by a bus in Cork.

The 72-year-old woman who was walking at the time of the incident was fatally injured when a bus struck her. She was removed to Cork University Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly before 9.00am. Gardai are therefore now investigating the fatal collision, which occurred shortly before 8.00am this morning on the Southern Road in Cork city.

Gardaí are still at the scene and diversions are in place. Gardaí at Anglesea Street Garda station are appealing for any one who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

The incident is the second collision between a bus and pedestrian this week.

A woman pedestrian in her late 20s/early 30s was injured on Tuesday evening when she was hit by a bus on one of Dublin's main thoroughfare.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital.

Dublin Bus have also launched an investigation into the incident.

Former Bus Driver Accused Of 'Odyssey of Destruction'
A former bus driver is standing trial accused of a destructive rampage which led to the death of a pensioner. Peter Clarke, 38, is alleged to have taken the bus without the permission of his employer, before engaging in what the prosecution described as "an odyssey of destruction" leading to the death of 62 year-old Ms Marie Buckley.
