Police Appeal During 'Carnage On Dublin’s Streets'

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the second shooting incident in Dublin this week, as Fine Gael hit out at the "Carnage on Dublin's streets".

Gardaí say they are keen to speak to anyone that may have seen a male described as being between 5ft 6 and 5ft 9 in height of medium build in his early to mid 20s. He was possibly wearing some type of sports gear or tracksuit, which had a silver stripe.

According to an official Gardaí statement, it is believed this man travelled on foot down from Summerhill Road onto Gloucester Place and possibly onto Sean Mc Dermott Street.

They are also keen to speak to anyone that may have seen a Black Volvo S40 sport car, registered number FD 54 CEY. This is an English-registered car and the rear number plate has a yellow background, which may assist witnesses.

Fine Gael Senator Paschal Donohoe said this second murder in inner city Dublin yesterday along with the separate Dublin shooting only hours beforehand show that the Government is continuing to lose the battle against gangland crime in Dublin.

"It is worrying that in a country such as ours where the rule of law was once respected, murder no longer prompts surprise to those reading the papers and watching our news.

"Indeed, there seems to be a gradual acceptance that murder is a fact of life in our nation’s capital. Most worrying of all is that that our own Government seems to have come to accept this tragic state of affairs."

The Minister called for a 25-year minimum sentence for murder and more to be done at Ireland's ports, airports and along the coast to stop the supply of guns and drugs into our country.
