Irish Jobs Safe From BT Job Cuts
BT have announced Ireland will largely escape its plans to cut 10,000 jobs in the UK as part of a cost-cutting programme.
Making the announcement last night, BT said the cuts will mainly affect agency and contract staff, including offshore workers, the company said.
However, BT Ireland has reported a 5% growth with a 13.5% rise in profits in its first half revenues this year securing a number of lucrative contracts over the period including Bristol Myers Squibb, EMC, Hays Recruitment, Kilsaran Concrete, Prometric, and Thomas Crosbie Holdings.
BT has a global workforce of around 160,000 direct and indirect staff. The company said it was halfway through its job cutting process and had cut 4,000 jobs to date. It aims to achieve remaining cuts through natural turnover and said that the direct jobs were mostly coming from Britain.
BT Ireland currently employs around 3,000 people.

Ryanair Announce Cuts In Dublin Service
Ryanair are to announce cuts to its Dublin service later this morning. The airline says it has been facing difficulties with the €10 departure levy, introduced as part of last year's Government Budget. Last week, the airline announced plans to reduce services at Shannon and cut the number of aircraft at the Co Clare facility from six to four.

Talk Talk To Close Its Doors
The Talk Talk call centre in Waterford will today shut down with up to 600 people set to be left unemployed this evening. This follows an announcement last month that the company would close its Irish base within 30 days. The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton pushed for an extension to the 30-day notice period but the request was later refused.

Fresh Job Losses Announced
In a devastating blow it has been revealed that a further 1,130 jobs could be under threat in Ireland. It has been rumored that 130 jobs could be axed at Rigney Dolphin who employ around 1,000 people in three offices in Waterford, Dublin and Dundalk.
