Erin Brockovich Takes Ill While In Ireland

Environmental campaigner Erin Brockovich has fallen ill while visiting Ireland over the Haulboline issue.

Ms Brockovich recently met the Minister for the Environment to discuss the toxic waste problem at Haulbowline, Co Cork.

She was due to give a keynote speech at the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) this afternoon.

Due to her illness, a member of Ms Brockovich's staff contacted the IIEA explaining she would now be unable to give the address.

Erin Brockovich is an American legal clerk who was instrumental in constructing a case against the $28 billion Pacific Gas and Electric Company in California during 1993, despite having no formal training in law.

The trail was later made into a Hollywood film, starring Julia Roberts as Erin.

The case also involved chromium six (also found at the Haulboline site), in the southern California town of Hinkley, were it seeped into the drinking water of nearby towns.

On Monday it was revealed Ms Brockovich had had a "long discussion" with Mr Gormley on what could be done to clean up the site.
