Gardaí are investigating a firearm incident in a Co Wicklow housing estate.

Officers were alerted to a shooting last night at the housing estate in Rathnew, were it's believed a gun was fired at a downstairs room of a house in the Bank housing estate in the town.

A woman was sitting in the front room of the house at the time, however, nobody was injured in the incident which happened at around 11.30pm on Thursday night.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Gardai said no arrests have been made but an investigation has been launched.

In another gun attack, a man in the North has been taken to hospital after being shot four times.

Three masked men, two armed with hand guns, forced their way into a property in north Belfast and opened fire.

The 40-year-old man sustained wounds to his elbow, ankle and both knees in the incident at Cranbrook Court shortly after midnight.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening, and police say there was no evidence of paramilitary involvement.
