Flight Grounded in Mushroom Cloud

A Ryanair flight was grounded this week due to a leaky jar of mushroom soup.

The soup was being stored in an overhead compartment before it sprang a leak, covering a man below in a liquid given the cloudy description of a "vegetable oil/mushroom soup type substance".

The soup victim reportedly suffered an allergic swelling in his neck and struggled to breath, forcing staff on board the flight to Dublin from Budapest, to seek emergency medical treatment.

A spokeswoman said: "It is procedure when a passenger requires medical attention to divert to the nearest airport. The cabin crew and pilot take that decision."

The freak incident occurred on Monday, the same day as another Ryanair flight had to make an emergency landing in Limoges after suffering a sudden loss of cabin pressure.

In a statement released by Ryanair on Thursday, the Bristol to Barcelona flight experienced an "in-flight de-pressurisation incident, which caused the oxygen masks to deploy."

A spokesman said: "Ryanair's engineers have inspected the aircraft overnight and have confirmed that the oxygen masks which deployed were working properly.

"The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 is 5 years old and was last serviced… just one month ago.

"The Captain of the flight has flown with Ryanair for five years, seven months and has over 13,400 hours flying experience."
