Knife Point Robbery Of Parking Meter Monies

Two parking meter money collectors have been robbed at knifepoint in Dublin - in broad daylight.

Gardai in the area are now seeking assistance from the public following the incident on Dublin's Kings Inn Street at approximately 1.20pm on Tuesday.

The two security men were carrying out collections from Dublin Corporation Parking Meter machines in the King's Inn Street area at the time of the attack.

A number of men approached their white Ford transit security van, which was parked at the time and threatened them with knives, forcing them into the rear of the van.

One of the raiders is described as being of stocky build, approximately 5'8" and spoke with a Dublin accent.

The van was located a short time later at Dominick Street. The two security employees were uninjured, but a number of cash boxes were removed from the van in the course of the robbery.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything unususal in the area or who may have any information, to contact the incident room at Store Street Garda Station on 01-6668089.

In addition Gardai are appealing for business people or people working in financial institutions who may have been approached by anyone seeking to change an unusually large number of coins to contact the same number.
